Deja Vu!
Have you ever had those times where you feel like you've lived this moment in your life before?
Like you've seen it, felt it, heard it, or smelled it before?
I did, in Mr. Romine's back room with Tori, and I looked it up right away!
There are couple of theories beyond this phenomena, but I will explain the most accurate and the one I agree the most with;
Deja Vu is when your eyes or other sensory organ sends double messages to your brain.
By the time your brain gets these messages, and makes sense of them, the brain thinks that that event has occurred before in the person's lifetime.
Freaky, isn't it!?

E.E.Robbins!
I went with Daddy to work today, and saw how diamonds are cleaned!
It was SO cool! The machine, with blue water, moves at super sonic speeds, and it shakes the dirt off the diamond.
There was a diamond ring buffer machine too. That thing gets your fingers really dirty, but when you try to wash it off... It stays there.
The only way to take it off is to dip your fingers into that blue water stuff, so that the machine can take out the dirt.
When this happens, you feel ticklish.
I just realized this entry is really random and doesn't really stick to one topic...
But hey! It was science!!

Ferrero Rocher Chocolates!
That's my favorite type of chocolate, ever!
But how is it part of science?
Well, when the candy is made, chocolate is heated, causing all the chemical bonds to break.
Other ingredients are added, and when cooled, new chemical bonds are made.
This is the origin of the different tastes and colors of chocolate.
For Ferrero Rocher chocaltes, they take a peanut, coat it with chocolate and a crunchy layer, and then add a nuts and chocolate layer over that.
Yummy goodness [:

What was Copernicus right about?
Copernicus was right! About what? Well, he was right about the fact that the Sun is actually not moving at the center of our solar system, and that our planet, the Earth, is actually revolving around it! What a smart cookie! Yay for Copernicus!

Coughing & Asthma
A cough is a natural body reflex that helps it clear your throat and lungs.
Your body coughs because it is trying to blow out the virus or bacteria that is not supposed to be present.
Coughing can lead to bigger and more serious conditions - like asthma.
With asthma, the airways in your lungs condense, therefore you cannot breathe right.
Many people are diagnosed with it. There is a treatment, however, no cure.

Why is Jack In The Box ice clear?
So I noticed that when you freeze ice at home, it has white stuff in the middle..
And ice from anywhere else (not just Jack In The Box!) is super clear..
Why is this so?
I tested it out, and found out that the clear ice is filtered ice. It has been boiled, cooled, then boiled and filtered again about two times, then frozen.
NO WONDER IT TASTES GOOD. [;
For the ice we have at home, we just fill up a tray and freeze it.
Therefore, the white stuff is just the impurities inside it.
Keep it clean, chew clear ice.

Volleyball Tryouts!
As much as I love volleyball,
and as proud as I was for being able to serve (last year I couldn't serve, AT ALL)..
I'm afriad that there is a science to volleyball..
Sorry guys, but it's true!
Let's talk about serving.
I throw the ball up, which takes energy.
As the ball is coming down, I throw my arm up and slap it as hard as I can (with a little jump!).
Newton's laws of motion and gravity take into effect there.
Volleyball is hands down my favorite sport.
And I hope I make the team!! :D
04.09.10
The Water Cycle!
In theory, the water you drink, has been in the air, in the ocean, and and most likely in another person's mouth!
The water cycle has four steps;
Evaporation - Moisture evaporates into the air.
Condensation - The air becomes colder making the moisture condense.
Precipitation - This occurs when the clouds get heavy and drop all the condensed moisture they have, in the form of rain or snow.
Collection - When water falls back down to Earth, it is collected on land, or in oceans, lakes, or rivers.
And that's the water cycle! :D
03.31.10
Thunder and Lightning
Lightning is basically a huge discharge of electricity.
When we say "I saw lightning!" it simple means that large amounts of electricity shot through the air.
From there, the electricity hits the air and starts it to vibrate, anything vibrating causes a sound - therefore, thunder.
So everything happens because of sound waves bouncing off places and reflecting back!
Short and simple [:
Details will be added later!
03.23.10
Shooting Range!
For my birthday, I wanted to shoot a gun.
I had talked to my dad many times about going target shooting,
and today, we actually did.
It was my dad and I, and one of his friends.
In Covington, they have this HUGE range, where people can go and shoot, for free.
It's basically a huge park.
Of course, you have to get your own supplies.
We shot with 5 different types of guns.
2 shots gun, 2 riffles, and this 1 super cool looking one! :D
I'm sorry, I don't remember/know exactly the names of them.
Since I am really good at archery, I found shooting to be really easy as well.
You aim, and fire. However, there is also a recoil (when the gun moves backward after the bullet as left it), which varies from gun to gun.
This recoiling is what I want to focus on.
One of Newton's Laws states that for every force, there is an opposite and equal reaction.
After I squeeze (NOT PULL, I learned the hard way!) the trigger, and the bullet leaves the gun;
any equal force is exerted towards me, pushing me backwards.
I stop myself from falling back by balancing myself and having a nice stance.
Over all, it was REALLY fun!
I got cool tips from a professional shooter :)
And, I didn't kill any animal. Haha [:
03.17.10
Making Chocolate Chip Cookies!
I got home from school today and decided to make some cookies.
The ingridents are mixed together to make a delicious mixture.
Then, I put it in the oven so that the pre-existing bonds can break, and new bonds can be formed.
These causes the cookie dough to become even more delicious!
After cooling, my chocolate chip cookies were all finished, due to everyone eating them up! :]
03.10.10
Why is the sky blue... and not orange?
True sunlight is made up of all colors.
When the sunlight hits the atmosphere of the Earth,
the color blue breakes off from the other colors
and gets scattered into the air.
Becoming sparated from the other colors, it becomes visible, and that is why we see blue.
Plus, orange is not one of the basic colors. Red and yellow make orange.
But, that's an entirely different subject. [:

Riding Up and Down Moving Stairs and Energy!
At NCCE I figured that our group has/had been using an escalator a lot!
It is basically an inclined plane.. except it's moving and it has gears!
It's amazing how much science you can relate to one machine.
We either ran up them, or stood still and let it take us - both of which took some sort of energy.
This energy comes from the food we eat.
I ate a Subway sandwich for lunch, so that's where I got my energy.
If you narrow down the sources of energy, they all somehow end up to the sun.
All of our energy comes from the sun!
So where would we be without it?
The answer, probably dead. :]
02.25.10
Using a Cellphone and Rain
So Gaby called me to remind me to do my weekly blog...
I owe it to her to talk about the phone call.
I can see that there are a few types of energy we stuided that apply to this example.
A cellphone requires electrical, sound, and light energy.
It gets all this energy from when it is charged.
Also, the fact that it rained today is another science topic.
For two days, the weather was super nice.. The sun was out, around 65-70 degrees.
Then, just yesterday, things went downhill... Seattle is known for the rain, and that's what happened - it rained!
In depth, what happened those two days was condensation.
Water evaporated, and now we're getting dumped by it again! O:
And the cycle goes on and on and on.. and on ... !

Snowboarding in the Olympics
Shaun White is pretty much my favorite snowboarder. [:

Can't sleep
It's 11:21 pm, and I can't sleep. I wonder why?
Well, let's look at what I had for dinner...
I made my dad take me to Wendy's, because we hadn't been there in a long time.
I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich, no tomato, fries, and Dr. Pepper.
Figured it out yet?
Dr. Pepper - YES!
Caffeine really gets me going, even if it is just a little bit!
This means that it gets me very hyper.
Caffeine is a drug that speeds up your brain and nervous system - and that is the point where people say so-and-so is "hyper."
I was reading a couple days ago, about a young boy who has something called Kleine-Levin Syndrome.
This means that he sleeps for hours upon hours, only waking up to eat or use the restroom.
Please check out his full story for more information; http://klsfoundation.org/kleine/levin/diary/C22/
Hopefully now I can go to sleep!

Why do we get headaches?
You go to a doctor and complain, "I have a throbing headache.. What's wrong with me?"
Heacahces are one of the most common deical complaints, and everyone gets them.
With a headache, it's hard to work, but what really causes it?
A headache is a pain sensed in the nerves and muscles of the head and neck (and spinal cord!).
Your brain cannot "sese" pain, so a heacahe has nothing to do with your brain hurting.
It is really somewhere else around your brain that is hurting.
There are two main reasons why headaches are causes. Doctors divide them into two categories:
Primary: headaches that have nothing to do with any underlying medical condition.
Causes: megranines, tension, and clusters.
Secondary: headaches that are associated with medical conditions such as infections, fever, head injuries, etc.

I love chapstick.
I love the ones that smell good, you know?
Oh, and I use them a lot!
So why not write about it!?
Alright, after much research, I found out some interesting since myths about chapstick.
-Chapstick has alcohol in it, which makes the lips dryer.
True; Chapstick does make your lips dryer!
-Carmax has this thing which makes your lips addicted to it, so you keep using it!
False; There is no such thing! (;
-Licking your lips makes them dryer, just drink more water!
True; Licking your lips DOES make them dryer,
but you should drink water and make sure you are taking those vitamin pills!!
-Putting oil in your naval help make your lips smoother!
True; Believe it or not. I got this from my Grandma.
Apparently, it's an old-fashioned technique used in India!
-Eating chapstick is good for you!
False; It clearly says "for external use only."
Do not eat it! It may cause serious health risks!
So here's what I can conclude...
Chapstick is okay to use, but just I would do the natural thing,
-Drink water.
-Eat a vitamin pill EVERY DAY.
-Do not eat it! Eat food!! (Even if it's Ms. Piehl's little bar thingyies!)
And then you'll be good to go! (:

Adding on Nikhil's Post..
(Just saying my opinion.)
Apple's newest invention... The iPad!
Technology these days, like seriously!
As cool as it sounds..
Take a minute to think about it.
There is an Sony eBook Reader, an amazing Kindle, and now an iPad?
To be honest, there is no camera in it, and you can only run one app at a time..
After very much research, I can say, it is a waste of time.
And I certainly wouldn't buy it.
How times will people use it everyday?
I know Apple has come so far, and yes, they need to keep coming up with more of these 'time saving devices.'
Let's talk reality for a ride, shall we? The newest iPad, meaning the better iPad, will come out in late March... It will include 3G wireless!
Phones have internet, laptops have internet, desktops have internet...
Geez.
Hahaha.. By tomorrow, people like Mukesh Ambani will have 2 iPads in each bedroom and 4 in each bathroom!!
(By the way, if you didn't know, that dude is building a 27 story house, pure stupid-ness.)
I'm not picking on the company,
I love Apple and what they are doing and how they are changing technology as we know it...
I'm actually quite shocked about all this!
Hmm, what a rant. aha.

Cellular Devices
I know, I know. Many of you think that 'Cellular Device' is my nickname; but that is not what I am trying to say.
I am talking to Gaby at this moment, and we are able to listen and communicate within miliseconds.
Since she calls me almost every week reminding me that I still have my weekly blog to do, I guess I owe her an explaination!
Cell phones are very popular these days.
With them, you can text, listen to music, and talk to just about anyone in anyplace in the world!
But what makes a phone work?
Well, simply put, a cell phone is a two way radio system.
When you talk through a phone, your voice signals are converted into radio waves,
which then travel from the antenna of your phone to the receiver at a nearby base station.
The base station then sends your call through the telephone network until it reaches the phone you are calling.
There you have it!
Just because I was reading about it, I wanted to also include what makes a phone vibrate.
Inside your call phone, there is a simple motor which is unevenly balanced.
As it rotates on its shaft, the deliberaltely uneven weighting causes it to shake or thump!
So even when you are texting your best friend, or talking to your mom on the phone (wink wink), you are experiencing science!!

What's the real science behind bacon?
Ever wondered?
Well, either way, here's the answer.
Mr. Romine would be proud(:
I just had a Chicken-Bake (Chicken-Bacon) from Costco.
You guys should try it, it's really, really good!
(And only $3! Come on, you gotta love a good buy like that.)
When you cook bacon, there is a chemical reaction occuring between the fat and amino acids in the meat.
It releases the smells and flavors that are pretty much
impossible to resist! Pretty cool, eh?

Earthquake in Haiti
The roads are full of people.
They are crying, all of them whom are now homeless.
A city in ruins, rubish everywhere.
A few working phones, and foreign people carrying supplies and lending a helping hand.
As some of you might have heard, there was a 7.0 earthquake in Haiti.
The distruction was quite massive.
Everything has to be imported from other countries - aid, food, shelter, and clothing.
Well, let's examine what an earthquake really is.
The logical definition of an earthquake is: "When two or more plates of the earth suddenly slip past or into one another."
The kid-friendly definition of an earthquake is: "The earth is made up of many pieces we call 'plates.'
An earthquake is when these plates crash into each other (either into, beside, or over/under each other)."

Avatar in 3D IMAX
This blog was originally supposed to be posted on the 22nd. My bad.
Anyway, on 12/21/09 we went to go see Avatar in 3D at 10:45 pm (because all of the other shows were sold out).
When they were showing trailors, trying to get us to settle down, I was thinking of how the whole "3D" thing worked.
After some research I realized that 3D has to have something, if not everything, to do with science.
This is what I got;
3D glasses allow you to look at two pictures of the same thing taken from a slightly different angle.
When your brain puts the two images together, since the picture appears to have depth, you see a 3D image!
In order for it to be "3D" your eyes must see a slightly different picture.
In the real world, your eyes are spaced apart so each eye does have a different view. So the real world is in 3D.

Being Sick
Since science is everywhere, and I'm sick, I thought I should write about Being Sick!
When someone says, "I have a cold," it simply means that they have an infection in your upper respirtory system. The upper respirtory system includes the head, nose, throat, and ears. You usually have the symptoms of a cold for 2-3 days. I expirenced sneezes, body chills, and a sore throat. I knew I was coming down with something. I will probably have this cold for about 4-6 days, and if I don't feel better after that, I'll go to the doctor.
"A great deal of the universe does not need any explanation. Elephants, for
instance. Once molecules have learnt to compete and to create other
molecules in their own image, elephants, and things resembling elephants,
will in due course be found roaming the country side... Some of the
things resembling elephants will be men."

This is what I got;
