Week 1 My cat jump off the ledge on the second floor of my house and landed on the 1st floor. The reason why he didn’t go up is because there is a force called gravity pushing him down. Gravity is caused by earth’s magnetic field that pulls objects to earth’s surface.
Week 2
When I watch TV energy is powering it to turn on. The energy is coming from the electric company which is getting power from solar panels from the sun and turbines. Turbines get there energy from wind and water.
Week 3 I saw on the news that in different countries a lot of people have been getting sick with swine flu. The sickness spreaded because when someone sneezes or coughs the tiny germ molecules escapes and is floating around. When someone inhales the tiny germ molecules it goes into their body and they get infected. Week 4
When I was making Koo-laid I had to mix the ingredients together and that is called a mixture. There is also a compound that is mixture that was made by natural chemicals. For example when elements form together to make a rock that is call a compound and when you make lemonade and you mix the ingredients together that is a mixture.
Week 5
A couple of days ago a big earth quake happened in Haiti. This is because the metallic plates in earth’s crust shifted. Plates collide head to head all the time but slowly this is one Way Mountains are made. Metallic plates can make dunes cause earth quakes and tsunami. Metallic plates only move about an inch a year.
Week 6
Every time I watch T.V. or turn on light electricity has to power that. All the energy we get is from the sun. The sun shines one the solar panels and the solar panels collects the energy from the sun and then the energy is turn into electricity which can light a whole house. Another way we get energy is from river water as the water rushes threw a dam it is pushing turbines that generate electricity.
Week 10
Electricity is all around us. When we slide our feet across a rug our shoes pick up electrons that were in the rug. The when you touch a conductor like a doorknob the electrons will rush out your body all at once and cause a little shock. This is called static electricity.
Week 11 Sound waves are all around us, when we talk or play music we are creating sound waves. When we play a musical instrument we create invisible sound waves. A vilions string will vibrate creating a wave of sound that vibrates your ear drum which sends messages to your brain and that is how you hear. ALso when you talk your voice back vibrates and sends waves to the other person years. with out sound waves it would be very hard to comunicate.
Week 12
If I were driving in a car wearing no seat belt would and the car stop would I keep going or would I stop with the car. I would keep going at the same rate of the car because of force and motion. The force of the car as it moves is pushing me and when the car stops I would keep going because of Kinetic energy. Kinetic energy is the force that makes and object move and there is a energy called potential energy potential energy is a energy the makes and object stop. So when the car was moving there was kinetic energy and when it stop potential energy accurd but i would have kept going which is Kinetic energy.
Week 13
There are electrons everywhere in the world. There in food factories rugs and in us. Electrons also can be made and that is how we get our electricity. In factories thay have generators that provide electricty. The factories generators spin with a giant magnet in the middle this creates electrons so electricity is made. This is called current electrcity.
week 14
there are lots of waves like ocean waves, light waves, sound waves and more. Most of our light waves come from the sun. The suns light waves are very powerful but our earth's ozone layer pretects them from harming us. The oceans waves are created by wind and vibrations in the sea. Last but not least sound waves, sound waves are created when a object vibrates then the invisible waves travel to our eardrum where it sends messages to our brain. Week 15
A while ago we did a project with food coloring in science class. We poured the food coloring in warm water and the other color in cold water. Then we put the warm water at the bottom and the cold water on the top. it mixed fast and fully. The we tried putting the warm one on top and the cold one on bottom. It did not mix that good. This is because when the heat was at the bottom it rose to the top because heat rises and when the cold water was on top it sunk to the bottom because coldness does not rise.
Week 16
Have you ever wondered how heat vision goggles worked or X-rays work or maybe even the radio. Heat vision goggles is made up of Infrared light. The infrared light can see thermal energy or heat energy.
Week 17
Have you ever wondered how a star was born. When a old star explodes it leaves gas and dust. That dust and gas get smashed together and start to form a new star. This process take millions to billions years to do. After the baby star is form it is still wild with flares shooting up from the surface. But when it gets older it is settles down.
Week 18
It takes a long time for a satellite to reach planets in our solar system. If the satellites went straight to the planet it would take a century just to get there because of the suns gravity pulling the satellite. But there is a way that the satellite can get thee faster. N.A.S.A makes it so that the satellite uses other planets gravity as a slingshot to make the satellite go faster. This manuever cuts the time it take to get there in half.
Week 19
When moon is orbiting the earth the tide on the earth rises or lowers. This is because the moon's gravity is pulling the tide. When the moon is closer the tide is higher when it is farther away the tide is lower. That is why when the moon is full or a new moon the tide is higher and when it isn't the tide is lower.
Week 20
There are theorys about how earth got it's moon. One theory is that a meteor the size of mars hit earth when it was forming. The debree from that collision form the moon. Another theory is that the moon was flying throught space and passed by the earth. Earth's gravity had pulled the moon into orbit around the earth.
Week 21
There are all different types of galaxies. There the spiral galaxy like or own milkyway galaxy. A spiral galaxy is a shaped like a disc. There is a elliptical galaxies. A elliptical galaxy is a galaxy that is shaped like a sphere. A irregular galaxy is a galaxy that has a undefined shape.
Week 22
When I watch T.V I can see color. This becausw the light waves that the T.V is producing is hiting my eye and allowing me to see color. Light waves are the fastest moving thing known to man. Thats why in space we call it light years because it is how far light can travel in a year. Some stars might not even be there but the light waves are just barley hitting earth. It could have took millions of years for the light waves to reach earth
