March 5th!
Today I am going to talk about when I was moving, we had to keep the door open while we were moving boxes and furniture in and out of the doorways. To make this happen we used a wedge or a doorstopper so hold open the door. A wedge is a simple machine to help make harder things easier for us and the wedge helped moving WAY easier!
March 6th!
I was planting flowers with my mom and she told me that the type of flowers love and grow healthy in the sun, and I was thinking what if the sun wasn’t there? It would affect the way the flowers grew and I thought that the sun gave the flowers energy to grow healthy. The sun is a very powerful source that makes a lot of things grow healthy and it gives off a lot of energy.
March 9th, Today I was making pancakes and I realized that the trick to get a really good pancake was to watch and in a couple seconds or a minute there will be little teeny tiny bubbles that begin to pop up at the sides of the pancake, but that just means the sides are cooked but to have a good pancake that isn’t all gooey inside you have to have at least 3 bubbles that have popped in the middle and then you flip it. I think that science is in this because the bubbles have to do with the heat affecting them and it tells you that it is getting cooked. March 10th, I visited my sister yesterday and we went to the store to get supplies for dinner (she makes THE BEST food) and she told me to go weigh how much pounds of apples she was getting and so I did. As I did this I realized I could use the scale as a blog because it’s a scale and it tells me how much it is the apples were weighing and that is a part of science. Also like the weight scales that are in a lot of people’s bathrooms so that you can just stand on them and see how much you weigh. Weight is used MANY times in science.
March 12th,
today we did an expiriment and it had to do with fire!!! yess!!!
science is used in all kinds of things that have to do with fire such as a video that we saw a few days ago that had to do with cameras that can see through fog and walls and all that. Firefighters use that al the time to see what is inside the house when they are trying to put the fires out.
March 18th, Today was my sister’s birthday and my niece wanted to make her something special. She decided she wanted to do a project which was making an erupting volcano. We worked on it and finally got it done. That night we showed it to her mom (my sister) and we had to try it out sometime, right? Well we got the vinegar, water and baking soda and put it in a bottle and then Sonja poured the vinegar into the volcano and it erupted, foamy red stuff poured out the sides. It was really cool. March 19th, Today and yesterday I looked at the sky and laid under the stars, each night I found out that the moon was getting bigger it seemed like, it might have been getting smaller but it was changing. I thought it was cool and this relates to science I think because scientists spent a lot of times studying about the moon and they still do and I can see how it can be awesome to learn more about it.
March 23rd,
Tonight I made dessert, I was making brownies.. yummmm! well I thought I could use what the oven does and heat for science. When I put the brownie mix into the oven to bake I set the timer for 10 minutes because the box said 9 to 12 minutes so I put it in the middle. It is my trick for soft chewy brownies, but if people want crispy brownies I put it in for the whole 12 minutes. Its just funny to me because if you leave it in just ONE minute longer it could burn and become nasty. Its awesome.
March 28th,
My sister and my mom were looking at a flower plant book and my sister asked which plants deer hate. My mom said they really didn’t like this one type (I cant remember the name atm) and my sister decided to get it because she lives where there are a lot of deer and they keep eating her flowers that she plants. I think it is cool how everyone thinks that deer will eat anything and they really they are really picky. Their taste buds are really different from other animals.
April 20, 2010 Today was in the 70s!!!!!!!!!!!! it was amazing! I was hanging out with my friends helping pick up and clean out there yard and mow their lawn and all that fun stuff (cough cough cough) but all of a sudden it was bright outside and warm! They didn’t think about putting on sunscreen and got TERRIBLE burns while me on the other hand put on sunscreen and didn’t get a bad burn…the sun can work really fast because we were only out there for about a half hour and they were as red as tomatoes.
April 26, 2010 Yesterday I heard that it was suppose to be in the 70’s today…it wasn’t, it was muggy but I never saw the sun today. It was raining by 4:00..i was mad because I was looking forward to seeing the sun today…its weird how the weather changes so much over a period of time…also it is very weird how windows can affect how cold it is, I am sitting on my couch and when it was earlier and warm-ish outside it was warm inside and then it turned cold outside and it is FREEZING in here!!!! Typical Seattle
MAY 17TH, 2010
I was in the hospital this week and I just was thinking about simple machines and the whole hospital is made out of simple machines! Inclined planed and wedges and all that, but what im going to tell you is that my hospital bed they had to use screws and a lot of different simple machines to raise up my bed so I was basically sitting up so I could breathe and sleep. When they made my bed like that it was sort of a ramp. Also another simple machine. The hospital is full of these machines and I used a lot of them the time I was at the hospital this past week .

Today I was just thinking and I have been through a lot of medicine this past few, couple weeks. Every time I went to the doctors they would give me a new prescription to take for my pain, my back, my tonsils, my swelling, my breathing, my living practically. Medicine is science; it is a form of chemicals to produce a reaction. It is amazing; I finally found what I was looking for after going through about 6 prescriptions because every time the reaction wouldn’t come? Or it was the wrong reaction that they were looking for. Science is everywhere I swear. It’s fascinating.
June 9th, I was watching the weather station a couple days ago and it was cool how they had all these machines that could tell them what the weather was going to be for the next week, almost pinpoint, sometimes they are wrong but most of the time they are right. The machines are made up of so much stuff if not all that came from little simple machines and it is all scientific. It tells weather for gosh’s sake! Its awesome!
