Week 1
12/17/09, Thursday
Today I went to baseball practice after school and started hiting in the batting cages and i noticed that the force exerted from the bat on the ball made a reaction which caused the ball to go in the opposite direction. This is an example of newtons third law where for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Week 2

I see cars drive by everywhere and each of them has tons of science in and around them. Like rolling friction when the wheels are on the ground and also the car has inertia acting on it. Also car engines have science in them like when the pistons are pushed from explostions in the cylinders and where gas is pushed in and lite on fire by a spark plug, Creating an explosion.

I saw a show on tv where they were making bread and this is science because when the yeast rises it creates a chemical reaction. The yeast rises by when it eats sugar and salt causing it to rise. When it is baked the yeast is heated up and then it dies. Stopping it from rising.

I was walking in a park and I saw someone dribbling a basketball from a long distance away and i noticed that i wasn't hearing the sound at the same time that it hit the ground. This shows that sound doesn't travel as fast as light does. And it also shows how Sound travels in waves.

I was watching tv and i realized that the tv i was watching was science. Radio waves send signals to my tv so i can watch it. This works by transfering electromagnetic waves into Sound and LIght Energy and then transmitted into your TV?

When I was Riding my bike today i realized that i had energy when i went off jumps and ramps and stuff like that. When I went up the ramp and was in the air i had Potential energy and when I came down and rode off i had kinetic energy. And when i pull on the brakes friction slows the bike and causes it to stop.

When I was walking home after school today I realized that there was science in motion when i was walking. I knew that energy was being used from calories and those calories came from foods and plants that i had eaten earlier, And those plants get there nutrients from water and the sun. The sun is where all energy comes from.

I was listening to music on my zune the other day and i realized that it was also science. Like when the vibrations from the singers voice or an instrument is recorded from a recording devise and then put on the internet or on CD then it is downloaded to my zune, transferred to my headphones and then played in my ears.

Gravity is what everyone has to deal with everyday but how often do people realize it. Gravity is what pulls people down to earth gravity is made by a giant mass wanting to pull everything in to get bigger. Everyone and everything has gravity but not everything has enough mass to pull anything in.

I was at my house and I was hungry so I opened the freezer. I then realized that the Ice in the freezer was part on science. When water goes into a temperature that is 32 degrees or lower, it freezes and is turned into ice from the molecules that start to stick together more and move around less.

Today I was eating my cereal when I realized that that was also science, Because when people chew it causes a physical change and spit and other fluids break down your food as you chew causing a chemical reation.

Today I went to Azteca and was drinking water out of a straw and I realized that it was refraction, when the straw was in the water it looked bent and not connected to the straw out of the water. And also the straw looked bigger in the water than normally.

Today I was in my house and I looked in my big mirror and I realized that was a reflection. Reflections are part of science because visual light is bounced off a shiny surface or a mirror and then seen through someones eyes.

A few days ago me and my cousin were using Liquid Nitrogen (Dry Ice) when we realized that was part of science. Dry Ice doesn't melt into water like regular ice, it acually melts into air. This process is called sublimation, this is when a solid turns into a gas, skipping the liquid phase.

Heat energy is also something in science, Like when you rub your hands together it creates friction, and with friction comes heat.

I was looking at the sun one day because of the moon phases project, and i realized that it was part of science, because the speed that light travels, i could probably be seeing the moon a few seconds ago but really it has already moved a few seconds before i could see it, heres an example when you look at the stars, one of those stars could have already burnt up and is gone, but we would still be able to see it on earth even though its not there anymore.

Today I went outside and I noticed that my metal fence sorrounding my house was all rusty, and suddenly i realized that this was part of science also, when the rain comes down on the metal and the metal starts surronding the water creating a chemical reaction.

I was getting ready to go onto the plane to fly to Florida I remembered that a plane was part of science because air goes into the jets and the engines thrust out power out of the engines so that the plane goes faster. A lot of jet fuel is used though when flying though. The plane glides through the air with its large wings. Lots of studies and tests have been made to keep people safe up in the air.

Today I looked up into the sky and I saw stars and the moon, The reason this is part of science is because we don't know a lot about it so we try everything to study them like using tellescopes, rovers and even astronauts, up to find more about them.

I looked at the clock the other day and realized that even it is a part of science, The clock was and is used for telling time. The clock is based off of the sun when it is and where it is around earth. When the sun is exactly above us it is 12:00.

In our 4th quarter experiment me and cody shot water bottle caps by twisting the center of the water bottle creating air pressure in the bottle and when the cap is twisted the air pressure comes out pushing the bottle cap pretty far.

I was on the trampoline the oher day and i realized that the trampoline was part of science. The reason it is, is because of the springs when the springs are stretched out they will want to come back due newtons 2nd law.

Today I was zipping up my coat and I realized that the zipper was an invention from science, One side of the zipper connects to the other side of the zipper creating a bond between the two sides.

I realized that also a fan is part of science in the real world because when the blade rotates air from behind the fan is pushed and cooled into the front odf the fan.

Balloons can also be part of science in the real world because when helium goes into the balloon and scince helium is lighter than air it lifts the balloon high into the air.

I was taking a picture the other day when I realized that the camera was part of science. A photo is bounced off of the many lenses and then it is burnt into a tiny sheet of material. The picture stays in the memory of the camera.
